Note: All of the sites in the search engine should be from local companies (within 200 miles of Sac). Let me know if there is a local organization(s) you'd like me to add.

What is "Cool Green..."? Well this is where I deviate from showing local organizations and showcase something really environmentally cool. I can't give you the exact definition, but for me, it means any technology or process that just makes sense, but in a way that few would ever think of. Every few weeks I hope to find just such an item and show it off here. Enjoy!

How could a logging company, Triton Logging, be green and cool? Well this one is. This company makes the best of a bad situation. They harvest the trees burried at the bottom of dammed (or damned) lakes. When the dams were built, the areas were flooded without removing the trees. In many cases these forests have been under hundreds of feet of cold, dark water, leaving them perfectly preserved and out of reach till now. Or as their web site states "Lost underwater forests may sound like ancient myths, but they are in fact very real places. Some 300 million trees worldwide - with an estimated value of $5 billion - have been completely flooded by hydro dams. The submerged timber stands are untouched and the wood remains entirely preserved. " By harvesting these burried treasures (with the Sawfish, seen below), millions of trees will be saved above the water line. All of Triton's lumber has been certified by the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program.
